Mastering Loop Settings in Patterning 3
One of Patterning's core features is the ability to set loop parameters such as duration, step length and swing independently for each track. This flexibility allows for unique rhythmic experiments and intricate beat making. Whether you’re crafting tight, minimal beats or exploring polyrhythmic landscapes, understanding Loop Parameters is essential to mastering Patterning.
Loop Settings : The Basics
Each loop in a pattern has its own adjustable settings, giving you control over its behavior. And if you want uniformity, the Apply to All button lets you copy the settings across all loops in the current pattern.
Loops can operate in Standard or Divide mode:
• Standard Mode: Set your loop’s length using the Step Duration and Steps parameters. Step Duration is the length of each step - 1/16th note, 1/8th note, etc. While Steps is the number of steps in each loop. Each loop can be up to 512 steps long.
• Divide Mode: Divide a measure into subdivisions of equal duration, perfect for precise polyrhythms. This mode introduces a Measure button to independently set the loop’s measure length.
Playback Modes
Choose from 5 playback modes:
• FWD (forward)
• BKWD (backward)
• PEND1 & PEND2 (pendulum styles with or without step repetition)
• URN (randomized, no repeats until all steps are played).
ALT Controls
With the ALT button, unlock additional loop settings like page size and grid size.
