Learn about automating parameters in Patterning 3.
Ever feel like your hi-hat should move from side to side? How about making your tom play a melody? Automation is what you are looking for. Automation is the sequencing of parameters, allowing each step in the sequence to have it's own settings. This can apply to tuning, panning, filter settings, and more. You can even automate the FX track.
Patterning 3 allows you to automate parameters within your patterns, adding dynamic expression beyond just triggering notes. Here’s a quick guide to the three ways you can use automation in Patterning 3:
1. Draw It In
Hold down the control for the parameter you want to automate and draw in your changes directly on the sequence. To erase your edits, switch the pen tool to erase mode and tap the X.
2. Record It Live
Hit the record button and move the parameter control you want to automate in real time. Your movements will be captured as automation in the sequence.
3. Use the Layers View
Open the Layers View and select the parameter (layer) you want to automate. If you don’t see it listed, tap the + button to browse through all available parameters and add it to the view.
